This took place at the Salisbury and South Wiltshire Golf Course, on the day prior to the Convention.
This short piece was written by Paul Lynch, the holder of the trophy since 2019:
This event was inaugurated in Scarborough in 2005; David Stuckey presented the original trophy, the ‘Card Times Golf Society’ shield, which was named after his magazine.
The game is a social event with nearest the Pin’s and a Stapleford scoring system. There have been numerous winners over the fourteen years and as many as twenty-four players. The first winner was C.J. Brown, off a 5 handicap, I believe. He was again the winner in 2006 in Nottingham, and again in 2007 in Worcester. (We banned him after this... joking... because seriously we would love to hear from him again, he was a really good golfer unlike most of us.)
Since then, until pandemic stopped play, we have continued to play the day before each CSGB Convention, and following it around the country. The last event was in Nottingham, in 2019, when I was the winner (on my local course Wollaton Park Golf Course)
When Card Times ceased publication in 2014, Tim Davidson Auctions became the sponsor and he has generously supplied the Trophies. Julie Hale has presented these trophies on several occasions, in the absence of Tim; sadly Julie passed away this year, so we have decided to initiate a new trophy in her memory, which will be called the ‘Julie Hale Golf Trophy’, again sponsored by Tim.
Prior to each game we have a bacon butty and coffee followed by 18 holes of golf – after which we have a two course meal (which non-golfers can join us at) and the presentation of the trophy.
