BAT Eagle Bird AnimalsBirds
BRITISH American Tobacco [tobacco : O/S - Siam] "Siamese Dreams and their Meaning" - `Eagle Bird` brand (1923) Un/50 - B705-600 : B116-162 : BAT/491.3 [RB.21/491.3]

So we now know a lot more about this set than when we started, including the proper title, which is not "Animals and Birds" as I had been told.  And that explains a lot, tincluding my belief that the title was incorrect, as there are other items, as you will see from the still partial list below.

  • Bandicoot rats
  • Bear being restrained by man
  • Bee
  • Birds eggs in a nest
  • Camel
  • Chicken house with slope for entry
  • Donkey
  • Horse
  • Leopard chased by man
  • Lion
  • Man cooking a meal
  • Man weeding a grave
  • Pig
  • Rabbits
  • Sambar (often wrongly identified as elk or moose)
  • Sheep
  • Spider
  • Water melon
  • Well with wooden high cover
  • Wild pig being restrained by a man
  • Wolf being restrained by shepherd
  • Woman with bowl, two boys swimming

The set first appears in our original reference book to the British American Tobacco Company (RB.21, published in 1952) as

  • 491-3. SIAMESE DREAMS AND THEIR MEANING (adopted title). Front per Fig.491-3, whole 50 cards illustrated at Fig.491-3.A. Series of 50. Previously known as "Series D"

The front index tells us that they were issued in Siam, India, Malaya and China.

By the time of our original World Tobacco Issues Index, the set was listed as :

  • SIAMESE DREAMS AND THEIR MEANING (A). (50). See RB.21/491-3 ... B116-162

And this text remains the entry in our updated version of the World Tobacco Issues Index, save the card code, which is now B705-600
