This sale starts with stamps, but also stamp booklets, some with advertising for card-issuing companies, and trade card collectors might like to note lot 21, which is a very unusual stamp booklet, having a cover advertisement for "Pears - The King of Soaps and the Soap of Kings" . This has a catalogue value of £900, so it is something that Pears collectors will come across very seldom, and probably have never heard of before.
The cards start at lot 302, with a lovely little accumulation of A & B.C. Gum - "Batman" cards, six complete sets and a Secret Decoder, in pages within large ring binder, sets are Pink Back - Fan Club Panel & No Panel, Numbered on Front, 1A-44A, 1B-44B & Black Back. These are in VG to EXC with a catalogue value of £2210 and an estimate of £200-250.
They are followed by other A. & B.C. Gum sets, "The Beatles", "Elvis Presley.", "Mars Attacks", "The Rolling Stones" as single lots and assemblages in albums.
Anglo Confectionery comes up next, including more Beatles cards.
Then there are several lots of complete gum card trade boxes and unopened wax packs. Can`t see any X-Files, but "Dune" is included in lot 314.
Lot 316 is a good introduction if you are curious about slabbing and grading, because it is an assemblage of various graded items, including "Mars Attacks" No.30, a few "Monster Initials" and some slabbed wax packs. Worth checing out at an estimate of just £150-200
From Lot 324 we have several folders of flat wax wrappers in plastic leaves - Donruss, Fleer , etc, including several rarities. These are seldom seen in the UK, so bid wisely as they are very conservatively estimated.
A couple of star items must be the A. & B.C. Gum counter boxes at lots 335 and 336. Lot 335 is for "Civil War" - with an estimate of £250 - 300 and lot 336 is for "Footballers 1968/9", showing of the team pennants, with an estimate of £150-200
Cigarette Cards start at lot 337, with a small collection of Adkin part sets and types, Pretty Girl Series - Actresses x 2, Verse backs x 2 & Other backs x 7, Character Series - complete set (11 x green back & 1 black), mixed condition, the full set is G or better, remainder G+ or VG cat value £540. The estimate on these is just £540.
