Theme of the Week Solution

Our new week is devoted to sets which were issued in May, and we thought we would see how many large sized cards we could find, though we have already changed the first card, and I cannot find where I got the May date from for the third.

Saturday the 25th of April saw us start with this card, or it didn`t, because I currently still have this set twice, but the decision was made to retain this one, but use the text I had writ when it originally appeared, which is why its a slightly different cup, but still football. Anyway I`ve just been offered a Smith`s card that will go in tomorrow and sort it all out.

And as for the May link, there are again two, that the final seems to have been played in May, and that this set was definitely issued in that month

On Sunday the 26th of April we had another large card, and again definitely issued in May, which is a bit odd, as it was originally issued as a small set in January 1937,  before the Coronation, which did not take place until the 12th of May, then, in the month of the event, but presumably afterwards, it was reissued as larger cards.

Our third card, on Monday the 27th of April, is proving hard to date. I have it in the London Cigarette Card Company catalogue for 1950 as May 1908, but in our original Player reference book it appears as having been issued in February 1908. And whilst I was sorting that out I managed to lose the double picture, so I`m just nipping up to get it off the disc, and hoping its not in two parts, as originally sent to me, as front and back, which I will then need to combine all over again

On which note, if anyone else would like to send us any information or scans from their collection which relates in any way to our theme of the week, please do - simply email us at  webmaster@card-world.co.uk - and this is the same for any corrections, or for general cartophilic correspondence and chat.
