Convention 2026

Saturday 25th Sunday 26th April

Alive Lynnsport, Greenpark Avenue, Kings Lynn PE30 2NB

Pokemon

This year, something different, as to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Pokémon phenomenon, we decided to invite six specialist Pokemon dealers to join in with our convention, and this has been received well, both with Society members and Pokemon collectors. We have two 'Pokemon' only shops reasonably close to the venue in Kings Lynn. This should provide a lot of benefit to the Society, besides the extra door income, it will introduce a lot of young people to our world of collecting and 'who knows' some new members. Let's all welcome them and hope there are benefits for all. And just to whet your appetite, here is a short summary of their card world...

Three decades ago, the original Red and Green card games were launched in Japan - on February 27, 1996. They were developed in Japan. and were spin offs of the Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow Game Boy video game by Nintendo. The early cards were published by "Wizards of the Coast", who were already known for role play gaming cards because they also run "Magic: The Gathering". In 1999, Hasbro bought out Wizards of the Coast, simply because they wanted the Pokémon cards. Then there were lots of shauries and suings, also involving Nintendo, but eventually the lawsuits were settled out of court.

As for this really early card, which is entitled simply "Pocket Monsters Card Game", check out our newsletter of the 24th of February, 2024....

And many thanks also go to JS Cards, who supplied the Artbox Pokemon Chrome cards we used in our advertisement on our home page

As far as our own event, things have gone very well. In case you didn`t know, the Cartophilic Society made the monumental decision, back in November, 2025, to give FREE tables to any Society members who wanted to sell some of their duplicate cards -  and this has resulted in a full house, and not just that, of cards and ephemera that were formerly held safe in private hands. So we don`t know what will be there, you will have to come along and see. There will also be the same great range of local and national dealers, including ones who sell card storage, from traditional albums to hard cases for safeguarding and grading purposes.

And now for other things you need to know, starting with our official flyer :

Refreshments including that all important hot food is available at the coffee bar upstairs all day. You can bring your drinks etc. down into the main hall. Check the flyer at the top for opening/closing times each day.

The Cartophilic Society Annual General Meeting : this is for Society Members only - and will take place at 3.00 p.m. in the Olympic meeting room upstairs on Saturday the 25th April.
