this week, because I am getting more used to my glasses, I have returned to the reference books, so we are going to celebrate the month of June, either with sets issued in that month or with events, sometimes both
So our first clue, on Saturday the 6th of June, was of Morocco, who made their World Cup debut with a match against West Germany on the 3rd of June 1970 - and, in 1986, the year of this card, became the first African team to reach the second round, and only the second nation from outside Europe and the Americas to do so.
Our second card, on Sunday the 7th of June, showed the horseshoe bat, who appears in great numbers in this month, both hunting for a secure place to give birth and then to feed their babies, who are rather charmingly called "pups".
and lastly, on Monday the 8th of June we had a card not just to celebrate the awarding of the first Victoria Crosses, which took place on the 26 June 1857 but the man on this card, Charles Davis Lucas, whose bravery in the field of combat was the first to be rewarded with this medal
On which note, as always, and especially this week, if anyone else would like to send us any information or scans from their collection which relates in any way to our theme of the week, please do - simply email us at webmaster@card-world.co.uk - and this is the same for any corrections, or for general cartophilic correspondence and chat.
