This was chosen not only because it is the Scottish version, check out the last line of the text, but because the footballer`s surname was Burns, like Robbie Burns. We featured Robbie Burns before, one of my favourite Scottish writers, and thought by many to be the National Poet of Scotland. Our man, Francis Burns, is shown here in Manchester United strip but he was Scottish, born in North Lanarkshire on October 17th 1948. He started with Scotland Schoolboys, becoming their captain - in his later years he also played for Southampton, Preston North End, and then for the Dublin team of Shamrock Rovers. After that he moved to Australia, where he is still living.
This set was issued in two batches, cards 1-73 coming first and cards 74-144 following. There is a checklist for each batch, but curiously it is not the final card of each; they are cards 57 and 115.
