In “The Cartophilic World” for May-June 1953 (Vol.10, No.105, p.1264 and 1284) we are told that there were twenty-seven members attending and one visitor.

After the AGM an auction of 82 lots was held and this resulted in an increase to the Society`s funds of £73 8s. 6d. Mr. W.M. Wright conducted this. Some of the cards were part of the bequest to the Society from recently deceased collector Mr. Herron and many cards were donated by members. There were 21 different buyers.

A few prices realised appeared in the magazine, which you may enjoy thinking about...

  • A set of 112 “Mexican Actresses” was the most expensive lot at £3 12s 6d.

  • 24/25 South Wales Tobacco Co. “Views of London” sold for £2 15s. 

  • Redford`s “Stage Artistes of the Day” (complete) sold for £2 12s. 6d.

  • 120 unnumbered Guinea Gold Actresses sold for £1 1s.
  • A set of Caley`s “Film Stars” was expected to make 25/- but top bid was 14/-

  • A set of Williams “Views of Chester” went for  £2 2s. 6d.

  • Ten lots of Liebig cards, each lot ten sets of six cards, averaged 10/6d per lot.

  • Thirty Five sets of small size cards, Players, Wills, etc sold for £1 17s. 6d.

In addition there were lots of "Cheap MIxture". The boxes of small card size sold at £2 7s. 6d. for 3,000 cards and £3 17s. 6d. for 5,000 - whilst the boxes of large card size sold at 12/6d. for 1,000 cards
